Knowing the art of taking selfies is one thing, but do you know what you might be doing wrong if you still have to click 20 pictures, to only like one? We might have decoded the art of taking selfies but there’s much more to the selfie taking game than just that! The secret behind the perfect looking selfie? Avoid these makeup mistakes that ruin selfies and you’ll have it!
5 Makeup Mistakes That Ruin Selfies
1. Not Matching Your Base
Leave this mistake back in your rookie days. It’s not a secret that your #1 makeup mantra should always be blend, blend and BLEND! You do not want your face and neck to look like 3 different shades on a colour scale. Always do your makeup under light! In the dark everything may seem okay, but once you step out in to the light, lo and behold Willy Wonka appears! So don’t forget to blend from face to neck, you will thank us later!
2. Skipping or Overusing Powder
Unless you want to look like you’re a hot sweaty mess or almost-saw-a-ghost-like white, use your powder, ladies! Either end of the extremities is well, not pleasant. Balance is key. You don’t want that sweaty, greasy look when your friend snaps a quick picture of the two you. You also don’t want to look white, flat and dull by overusing the powder. Use it only to powder your T-zone, i.e, your forehead, nose and chin, for that glow effortless look. Selfie game strong!
3. Caking on Makeup
Cakeface is punishment enough off-camera as it is on. Sometimes, you head out with a couple of friends and end up retouching your makeup over the course of the evening. Before you know it, you have caked on several layers of makeup which ends up looking patchy and well, simply unflattering. Opt for lighter layers when it comes to makeup or use lighter formulas. You don’t want to look like a child on the wild with a lipstick. Caution!
4. Going All Out on The Highlighter
With the ‘highlighter craze running strong, it’s strange to even think of this as one of those makeup mistakes that ruin selfies. Yes, as surprising as it may seem there is such a thing as too much highlighter. As much as we love it, we’d rather not end up looking like robots with tin looking cheeks. True to its name it also tends to highlight large pores and uneven texture. Another alternative, mixing your foundation with an illuminator to highlight is a good way to go too.
5. The Flash Attack
It’s a classic case of mishap. The lighting too dark and you switch on your flash to click a selfie, only to end up look washed out. This is one of the biggest makeup mistakes that ruin selfies and any potential Instagram worthy picture. Avoid this by using low SPF foundations/moisturisers. The zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are the culprits behind the fail selfie. If nothing helps, Instagram filters for the win!
And if all else fails..
