Have you ever run out of space in your wardrobe? Just stood there staring blankly at how it got so filled up? Wondered how come you never use 3/4th of the items hanging on your closet? Are you having those thoughts while reading this post? Then, my friend it is time you then to declutter your closet!👗
Don’t get frightened by the word declutter. Let’s break it down for you. Declutter simply means removing unnecessary items from an overcrowded place, simplifying them. We all get emotionally attached to our clothes and find it difficult to make rational decisions about them.
Go take a look at your wardrobe. You would find yourself having some brand new clothes that don’t fit, a few clothes with which we don’t have anything to pair, and even some we keep in hope of an event to wear to some day. Clothes in all these categories do nothing for us and take up a lot of valuable space.
So here it goes everyone. Take a look at these 7 very simple steps to declutter your wardrobe. Let’s get your room more organised, your life more focused and prevent all your favourite clothes from going randomly missing.
To start with take a look at each item and see if it fits any of these titles. It’s time to declutter your closet!
1. Clothes with tags
Have you ever gone on a shopping spree without trying out the clothes first and later realised that they don’t fit you right? Or bought a new pair of shoes just because they were on sale? You would have thought about getting something to go with it but never got around to it. It happens to the best of us. No matter what the reason, holding on to an item just because it is new cannot be justified. So get them out!
2. Clothes that make you uncomfortable
Remember that outfit that looked great on you when you tried it at the store? It might have given you a completely different story when you wore it on a normal day. The buttons might have popped up, the hemline could have gone up or the neckline low. There are also dresses which just gets tight after the first wash. The list goes on. If the dress doesn’t let you sit or walk, if it makes you uncomfortable, it’s time to say bye-bye.
3. Tight dresses
You might have bought that tight fitting clothing in the high hopes that you will fit into it one day. Or it might have fit you then and you might have put on a bit of weight. Now, it is just hanging in your closet taking up a lot of prime space. So let it go. Treat yourself and get a new dress when you do lose your weight. The same goes in reverse to clothes that are too big.
4. No match found
Do you have any fashion piece that you looks great on you and something you would love to wear, but can’t find anything to go with it? Take a look at all such items. Try and decide if you want to invest in the co-ordinating piece or just give up on it and let someone else find a match.
5. Same colour outfits
Love black? Great! We do too. Everybody has a favourite colour. That doesn’t mean that you should just stock your closet with all black outfits. It is high time you let go of all the look-alikes. Be fun. Be sporty. Get experimental and try to mix and match outfits.
6. I’ll never wear those
If you have not worn that outfit for more than 3 months, chances are that you will never really wear them again. You might always try it before heading out, but never really opt for it at the end. Take them out and leave space for things that you actually use.
7. Special event clothes
Still holding on to that dress you bought for your cousins’ wedding? Or that dress you bought for the costume party? It might seem a bit odd to buy something for one time use, but it’s even weird that you keep something that you won’t wear again, just because you bought it for a special event.
Apart from these you might also want to toss out all the clothes that are completely worn out. We understand that the task is huge, tough and that it requires lot of willpower. But trust us, it is definitely worth all the trouble. You will thank us when you end up with lots of space for all the clothes and accessories that make you look great. 😎
