Some vegetables and fruits lighten skin naturally due to their acidic, antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Rub a thick slice of lemon on the armpits, this will remove the dead skin cells and lighten the skin. Let the lemon juice stay for about 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with water. Apply a moisturiser after bath to avoid dryness.
2. Orange Peel
Orange peels contain natural bleaching and exfoliating properties alike. It can be used as a natural deodorant, and also a scrub. Dry the orange peel under the sun and grind it into a powder. Make a thick paste by applying enough rose water and milk, scrub the underarms and leave for 15 minutes. Cleanse with water and repeat 3 times a week.
3. Potato/ Cucumber
Slice the vegetable into thin slices and rub it on your underarms. You can also grate the vegetable and apply the juice. Let it dry and then rinse them off.
Dark underarms could be a result of accumulated dead skin cells. So try exfoliating with homemade sugar scrub. To make the scrub, mix a cup of brown sugar with 3 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil. Apply to wet skin for a minute or two during a bath and rinse. Try using the mixture twice a week.
5. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a good option when it comes to getting rid of dark underarms as it contains Vitamin E. It also acts as an effective natural deodorant. Massage coconut oil for about 15 minutes and rinse off with mild soap and lukewarm water. Repeat 2 times daily.

As we said at the start, dark armpits could also be a result of shaving, which leaves thick hair under the skin. Opt for waxing instead as it removes hair from the root and leaves the area light and soft. The chemicals used in deodorants often darken the underarms, so why don’t you try and skip the deodorants?
