What’s The Met Gala

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event hosted by and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (popularly known as “The Met”), in New York, USA. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world’s largest and finest art museums. Its collection includes more than two million works of art spanning 5000 years. The Met Gala is conducted on the first Monday of May, every year.

The guest list for the annual Met Gala includes the world’s best achievers in all the spheres of music, film, Broadway and fashion, as well as simple supernova personalities. The list changes each year. As does the theme.

Met Gala 2019 Theme: Camp Fashion

Source: Instagram (@metmuseum)

The theme of the Met’s 2019 Costume Exhibition is “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” Not camp like the one with sleeping bags and tents and summer activities, but camp as in ‘over-the-top fashion’. American Filmmaker/ Writer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration” is the inspiration behind the theme.

Basically, this year we can expect some mad fashion experiments on the pink carpet. Camp fashion let’s you exaggerate your take on fashion, and is made of elements like humour, drama, irony or simply speaking – extremities.
