Not getting enough sleep? A good night’s sleep plays a big role in determining our mood, energy levels and our health. Tossing and turning in bed is never fun and we wake up feeling cranky. One of the reasons for not getting enough sleep could be our unhealthy before bed habits. We all make a habit of these sleep deprivers unintentionally.

1. Keep Technology At Bay

Watching television, surfing the net and texting could be second nature, especially before going to bed. These habits can actually make it hard for you to get a good nights’ sleep. The light from these devices fuels the brain and makes it hard to fall asleep. Have a technology detox every night for a while and take up healthy habits like reading.

2. Avoid Caffeine

We all know that caffeine helps us stay awake. Yet most of us chug down a cup of a cup of coffee or tea or at times treat ourselves to some chocolate before bed. Caffeine can impact your sleep to upto 12 hours. To get a sound sleep cut off caffeine consumption at least six hours before bedtime.

3. Intense Work-out Is A Definite No-no

It’s been proven that regular exercise actually help one sleep better and promote good sleeping habits. However, high-intensity exercise late at night may make it hard for some people to fall asleep. You should not exercise for at least 2 hours before going to bed.

4. Don’t Chug Down Too Much Water

While it’s important to stay hydrated, drinking lots of water before sleep could have a negative impact on your ability to stay asleep. Unless you want to get up several times to rush to the washroom, avoid drinking lots of water before bed.

5. Never Argue Before Sleep

Anger is definitely a healthy emotion. Arguing with someone, especially right before bedtime, can make it hard to fall asleep or have a restful sleep. It is also likely that you wake up with a pretty bad mood. Unpleasant things mess with your mind so sort out things before going to sleep.
